Life goes on they say
My dear reader, I am writing this piece especially for you so
please take a minute to ponder on these words no matter how heart breaking they
are there is a take away in there for some of you.
We get up every morning reminded of the hustle around us
sometimes we barely manage to get 5 hours of sleep cause of loud generating
sets, mosquitoes, heat or just stress.
We manage to put ourselves together and often times without a
bite to eat set out as early as 5 in the morning to beat the 3rd
mainland traffic.
While driving, you have enough time to think about your
finances, your challenges, that presentation, Your achievements maybe or just
that one thing you haven’t been able to get right.
Life everyday is a hustle to achieve greatness, wealth,
happiness, comfort and for the wise heaven.
Every now and then I wonder why we have to hustle so much when
we can`t even take 1 naira when we depart this earth. Vanity upon vanity
Solomon said is all vanity.
I was sitting on the couch last Sunday thinking about my finances,
the CF20 event and my next big break, when I got a message on my blackberry
saying that a Dana Flight had just crashed into a residential building in Iju.
I was shocked and devastated, all I could think of was who were the victims on that
flight?
Sadly all the passengers and crew members died. Hours later
the manifest was made public and the horror became personal. I saw names of
people known to my friends and even had a personal loss but nothing struck the
world like the calamity and horror of having 9 members of a family on that flight.
The Ayene`s had flown in from the
Unites States bringing their kids home for the first time to attend the wedding
ceremony of a close family and
Unfortunately met their untimely
deaths in a manner that traumatized an entire nation.
I woke up everyday wondering how
much grief the victims’ families were going through till I saw this Picture and
realized that the world is full of mysteries.
One week after the demise of
Maimuna and her family.
I am still in shock!

Dark days
Dana Crew earlier todaay |
Dana wreckage |
A Dana flight carrying passengers from Abuja to Lagos crashed today in the Iju Ishaga residential area killing the entire crew and all passengers onboard the flight.
It`s very sad and disturbing that all such calamities
seem to always happen on a Sunday when most people are returning from church,
returning to base or just relaxing with family and friends.
At the time the news broke I hear that the victims were
left to fate as no rescue seemed to be in sight and sadly all our national
channels were showing entertainment programs rather than empathize with the
chaos and make announcements.
I am personally worried about the present state of mind
of the average Nigerian. Are we safe? Who cares about us? How much chaos can we
handle? Are we being punished for our sins? Or are these just signs of the
inevitable end that the bible warns us about?
Whatever it is, I sincerely pray that sooner than later
people wont embark on an exodus to other nations.
It is sad that there were reports that the said flight
was not fit to fly and had been undergoing repairs for weeks but it was allowed
to convey 153 innocent people to their deaths today.
What will I wake up to hear tomorrow? Bomb blast? Church bombings?
Plane crash? Kidnapping of children? Increase in electricity tariffs? Increase in
fuel price? Only God knows.
This is what I see in my world today.

IN THE GUTTER
Have you ever been told to get your mind out of the gutter?
Well, guys get it in there right now because we are going on a
somewhat bumpy ride to discover who we really are behind closed doors.
This article is not for the self righteous or for the minors
but for the very realistic followers of Sandy`s blog.
I am sure you all have heard Mayd`s well received song titled "sound track". Please cure my curiosity and explain what the dude is really going
on about and if you, yes you! subscribe to his school of thought.
What`s your take? Do you prefer a quiet lover or a lyricist?
lol
some folks say that they like to hear a sound track cause it informs them that their partner is enjoying every bit of the delivery while some others say silence shows skills and sexual maturity.
I am sitting on the fence here cause there is no right or wrong just preference so over to you.
oh! did i say no hypocrites allowed? yes i guess i just did.
HIGH GRADE ENTERTAINMENT AND THE CONQUERING LION
Last week there
was a lot of buzz going on about Bob Marley day which was celebrated by fans of
the music legend who passed on over 30 years ago.
I believe that
lots of shows most have been organized all over the world to celebrate a man
who was not just an entertainer but a philosopher.
On Friday the 11th
of May High grade entertainment put up a first of its kind in Lagos Nigeria Reggae
show to revive the music genre which is believed to be endangered in this part
of the world and it coincidentally fell on the Bob Marley day.
The invitation
read…. High Grade Entertainment Inc presents Massive Invasion!...F.Man &
conquering Lion Sound system invades Lagos @ the Ember creek Awolowo way Ikoyi.
At first I was
like ….seriously? There is going to be an invasion in Lagos? Yeah right!
But if you weren’t
at the Ember creek on Friday then you need to look out for the next invasion
which I hear will be in Abuja and then in Portharcout soon.
Benny p and Osaze signing out |
There was an array
of reggae acts who flew in from all over the country and we equally had
industry veterans who came to give their support. The event started at about 9 pm and i doubt that it ended cause the music kept playing and the people kept dancing till 4am when i signed out.
I had fun, never knew I could get up and dance that much without smoking marijuana or drinking any margaritas. Lol. Contrary to the opinion that this genre of music is for weed smokers and dreadlocks, i say its for the deep thinker. its a movement and a calling. i don`t mean to preach but i just got born again. lol

Think Deep!
This article was written for Azuka Jebose an editor i met who wanted me to be a columnist in his magazine. The magazine didn`t work out so i have deceided to blog the article regardless.
There is no cure for low self esteem rather it can contaminate you. Your partner should be able to contain your personality in every aspect. He/she should be able to show up and represent you without you having a heart attack. He/she must complement you.
A little fairy named Cupid told me about what some of you were up to this valentine. Some relationships were appraised, Some knots tied while some discovered their soul mates. Regardless of what you hoped for I pray that you weren`t carried away by the roses, box of candies, dinner for two, gold necklace and all the razz mattaz that followed but you carefully considered those things that have a long term effect on your happiness.
What do you look out for in the opposite sex? What informs your decision that this person is worth dating or courting? What is your intention regarding the relationship and is all hell breaking lose?
Lots of people only look at the surface, looks, social status or personal achievements without looking deeply at the background of the to be lover which in most cases is responsible for whatever pleasant or nasty traits displayed.
One of my biggest turn offs is a person with severe insecurity issues.
There is nothing more unattractive than a person who lacks self confidence or even knows his/her worth. You may find yourself constantly reassuring such people of your love and commitment which often becomes very cumbersome.
People with insecurity issues may display some the following traits
1. Low self esteem
Have you been instructed to change your bb picture to his/hers, declare your engaged on all social sites, put up your partners picture as profile picture on fb, delete all pictures of you and the nice looking males/females on your page, get pregnant, wear unattractive outfits etc
If deep down inside you , you feel pressured and enslaved this is not what you may want to deal with forever. He/ she will forever scritunize you and strip you of every form of colour to appease their insecurities.
2. Extreme jealousy
Jealousy is healthy when it is not destructive. Your partner should adore you enough to not want to lose you but should not make crazy demands as a show of loyalty or a form of security.
Have you been told to discard all your friends of the opposite sex? or quit a job and be a sit at home wife? or not to say hello to the any old friend or ex while together? No matter what you do a person with low self esteem will never be satisfied and will drag you from one level of depression to the next.
3. Attention seekers
They are either loud talkers who always want to be noticed or they exhibit some amount of arrogance as a form of show off. If your partner uses swear words freely on a dinner table or you find yourself not wanting to be seem publicly with him/her my dear this is an indicator.
What`s more annoying than a partner who won`t let others speak or who constantly brags about acquired possessions and claims to know everyone in the upper class.
It must be difficult to be with someone who people stare at not because they are gorgeous but because they are so lousy.
It must be difficult to be with someone who people stare at not because they are gorgeous but because they are so lousy.
Be mindful of the empty vessel.
4. Wardrobe malfunctions
If you are constantly embarrassed by your partners appearance and he/she isn’t sensitive to this. Chances that you will eventually cheat is high.
What makes a lady attractive? Her appearance and carriage. It`s not about expensive jewelry or designer outfits but how everything compliments her personality and makes them sexually appealing.
5. Financial inabilities
No income is a complete turn off. Trust me, a lady of working age must occupy her hands and earn something no matter how small. Your man must work let me repeat that your man must work and earn a decent living. If he depends on you solely for survival, you might lose respect for him sooner than later. No matter how good looking they are or how much of a sexual dynamite he is trust me the looks will fade and reality will kick in.
6. Educational background
Let no man deceive you the educational background of your partner matters not in determining good character but in measuring how confident they might be when peered with your friends. Can they have intellectual conversations or is he/she limited in knowledge? Is there some form of shame when questions are asked about institutions attended or is there a challenge securing a job? he/she may carry some resentment for you and your friends.
Though there is a remedy for this you have to ask yourself how patient you are willing to be with such a short coming.
7. Social class or family background
Does it matter? yes it does dear. We all see things from different perspectivesThen again it`s important to note that some relationships can make you insecure. In the instance where
No show of open affection, No proper introductions, prolonged courting with no sign of actual commitment, Continuous Cheating, Third party interference, Or a total breakdown in communication.
What do I do I hear someone ask?
Honestly, no one can tell you but I can give you a hint. If you can`t find happiness in your situation and you have doubts take some time off to meditate about your future which is far more important.
Spend some time away from your partner to clear your head and realize that God is the only one you can`t walk away from. It doesn’t matter how many years you put into the relationship.
REMEMBER:
Hanging out with the girls |
You must trust each other and entrust in each other your vision and ideas.
How do I know if he/she can compliment me?
Well, try my compatibility test if you can at least score 5 out of 6 chances that you will have fun and may even work out is high.
Do you share the same faith? Or are you open about religion
Are you sexually compatible?
Are you socially compatible?
Are you morally compatible?
Are you attracted to him/ her?
Finally, can you settle issues with almost no interference from a third party?
Whatever you decide make sure you are true to yourself and try not to expect too much from others. There`s always someone out there for you.

The Hen or the Egg
Many have asked the question about which is more important the Hen or the egg some argue that the egg is more important hence it is the beginning of the creative stage of the bird while others say it is the hen simply because it is the carrier of the creation.
In my opinion both are important but if I had to pick one for the sake of this article I would pick the Hen.
There are some families in Nigeria that value children over their mothers and as such will insist that a to be bride must be at least 6 months pregnant before she will be wedded while some others insist that she must deliver the child first. Whichever scenario you paint I tell you that it is a wicked and desperate situation.
People have argued that the harsh realities that people are confronted with is dished to them by society but my dear reader here`s a news flash for you. Women are the problem of other women period!
The bible advices us not to be anxious for ANYTHING and I have over the years understood why for the less spiritual I would like to testify that in Gods time all things come to term hence worrying and running to and fro for solutions often becomes fruitless , frustrating and full of consequences.
I had a chat with a woman in her late 60`s whose family engage in such practice and this is what she had to say.
“We often insist that the incoming bride conceives first so as to ascertain that she is fertile and can carry a pregnancy to term. Who wants to marry a barren woman? We all want what is best for our children. Do you know what the lady must have done in her youth? Or if they have fertility problems in their family….” I was startled and she continued to say “I met this practice and I was equally a victim so who am I to change it?”
It`s a shame that even in the 21st century we are confronted with issues like this. I would want to assume that a couple should decide the level of risk they want to take without recourse to dehumanizing and agonizing methods.
Where is your God? What is your faith? Where is the love? What do you really want?
At this point I would like to ask, what should a lady who has been in Christian courtship with a man for 5years do? Defile herself and her values or forfeit the marriage? Your choice is as good as your moral standards. The society that put us in this horrible dilemma is the group of evil women who instigate such thoughts in the hearts of their sons. Some go further to advice their daughters to get pregnant in a bid to force marriage on a preferred suitor. How disgraceful and desperate!
For the benefit of the young women who will stumble on this article, my advice to you is that you are not bound to anybody by blood and as such you have the right to walk away from any circumstance that demoralizes you. Pregnancy guarantees nothing. You can conceive and yet be abandoned. A man that truly loves you will never put you to shame or present you with difficult choices he will honor you before your family by paying your bride price and will wed you legally and properly before making babies with you. Every woman wants to walk down the aisle; every woman wants to make her father proud. Some may have missed it but there`s always a second chance.
Don’t be ignorant and fall for the antics of families that want surrogates to bring children forth. A wedding ceremony can be as simple and affordable as you want but single parenting or the shame and guilt that comes with a pregnancy outside wedlock is far too expensive. Be wise!
The Hen is more important than the Egg my dear.

Occupy Nigeria
On the last day of the year 2011, Nigerians, still shaken by the Madalla Christmas day bombing and the spate of killings in the north by the Boko Haram Islamist sect trembled in fear. There had been increasing security warnings of an impending Boko Haram attack in Lagos. Those alerts and warnings were not in any way taken lightly. The large congregations that greeted churches cross over service were absent, while the bustling celebratory night life of the New Year eve was missing.
As the dawn of the New Year shone, many rejoiced at what wasn’t just the change in calendar, but the preservation of their life amid increased bombings and killings in the country. Happy New Year greetings swept across the country just as it did elsewhere in the world on January 1st 2012! Celebration in Nigeria would however turn bittersweet. The petroleum products pricing regulatory agency announced the withdrawal of petroleum subsidy, meaning Nigerians will from the 1st of January pay N141 per liter of petrol.
Social Commentator Achide Chude describes the shock that pervaded the nation.
Not only had an expected April date being compromised by the federal government, the fragile security situation in the country had been disregarded. As days went by, fuel subsidy removal discussions took over the media, activists, civil society groups and organized labor spoiled for war, Nigerians groaned, and tension grew in the nation- There was a general consensus! Government must reverse its new pump price from N141 to the original price of N65.
Nigeria is the sixth largest exporter of crude oil in the world. After years of oil production, billions of dollars in revenue proceeds accrued from its sale have been stolen and mismanaged by leaders. Nigeria can hardly refine enough oil for local consumption. The present Government said it spent over 1.3trillion naira subsidy on imported fuel. This money ensures that regardless of the landing cost of refined petrol, Nigerians will not pay more than N65 for a liter. The government stressed the bulk of these monies goes into the coffers of greedy marketers identified as a cabal at the expense of the generality of poor Nigerians who survive on less than 2dollars a day. It also promised that the removal of subsidy on petrol would enable it shore up finances to improve infrastructure transportation and education. The Nigerian people did not believe this.
REFUTING GOVT PROMISES
Organised Labor in its typical fashion began an indefinite nationwide strike, on January 9th, but this time, it is one greeted with intense demonstrations across the country. The music blared through the streets calling for a revolution.
At the Gani Fawehinmi Park Ojota, Lagos crowds gathered in scary thousands that depicted scenes of the 2011 Arab Spring. The protests were historic;

it had brought together, artisans, market women, the clergy, Nigerian celebrities from all walks of life, politicians, professionals, the unemployed and even the rich.
It was Popularly catch phrased the Occupy Nigeria protests, and social media like facebook and twitter, and blackberry fueled their message.

Despite their peaceful nature, the police shot at some protesters. After 5days of grounded economic activities in the nation, the senate brokered negotiations between government and the NLC were deadlocked. Organised labor however suspended Protests in the country even as the nationwide strike continued. This according to the convener of the save nigeria group, Tunde Bakare was to allow Nigerians refresh and get ready for what will be the big protest on Monday January 16th if the federal government failed to reverse its decision.
BAKARE
In all of this drama one man had apparently invoked the wrath of most Nigerians and perhaps attracted the sympathy of some. President Goodluck Jonathan was famously quoted during election campaign as saying he once had no shoes. He said he grew up in poverty and could relate to daily struggles of the average Nigerian. But with his decision removing fuel subsidy, Nigerians feel a sense of betrayal and couldnt seem to tell what the true intentions of his economic team were. The president didn’t seem to take the fear of a revolt against his administration seriously. He appeared stiff and wanted nigerians to trust his "goodwill" promising to even cut basic salaries of political office holders by 25%.
In his second Television broadcast to the nation in 2weeks, president goodluck Jonathan on Monday January 16th announced a 30% reduction in pump price of petrol from N141 to N97. Few hours after the president’s speech, the NLC called off its 8day old strike. In Abdul Waheed Omar, the NLC leader's speech, the government acted unilaterally by fixing new pump prize at N97.
How Nigerians felt after the call off of the strike
The amicable or harsh resolution of the fuel subsidy dilemma coupled with the timing of President Jonathan and his cabinet members is one that can make an interesting movie. it is very unclear whether the government had embarked on full or partial deregulation on petrol.
Normalcy has since returned in the country even though some Civil society groups feel they have been sold out by the NLC when it compromised on the N65 agreed price. To the average Nigerian, life must continue. The opportunity to send a strong warning to the government that they would not stay aloof to high handedness in Government and any action that may worsen their lives couldn’t have come any better. But Like a football field, the year stretches out to Government asking it to convince Nigerians that it will transform the economy and improve their lives.
